Janet O'Leary, LCSW

Janet O'Leary, LCSW, works with people who struggle with self-criticism, a feeling of never being good enough, and relationship patterns that cause suffering. Many of the people she sees want to understand themselves better and cultivate more self-compassion. She also sees people with histories of trauma, obsessive thoughts, and fears about the future, and she specializes in care for people who are queer, trans, nonmonogamous, and neuroatypical, including ADHD and autism. Her therapy is psychodynamic: she explores past and present painful and joyous experiences with curiosity, contemplation, and mindfulness. She earned a Master of Social Work from Smith College School for Social Work, a program known for psychodynamic and anti-oppressive training, after undergraduate majors in Anthropology and Gender Studies and a certificate in LGBTQ Studies. She has additional training in substance use, addiction, and co-occurring disorders. Clients have described her as compassionate, grounding, and direct, and have said they felt encouraged to open up without fear of judgment. She believes people need some peace within themselves before they can find more peace in the world, and she values partnering with them in that process.
